What are physical rehabilitation services?
Rehabilitation services are often recommended as a non-surgical treatment plan for people who have sustained an injury or illness that impacts the normal functioning of nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons.
Your health insurance company’s website should provide you with a list of physical therapists and rehab centers in your area that are covered by your plan. You should also ask around to see if you know anyone who has used a physical therapist or rehab center they like. Check our helpful links to find a specialist in your area.
Similar to medication, it is important to adhere to the rehab program your physical therapist recommends. The purpose of rehab is to build up muscles and strength so that your body can recover properly. Physical therapists recommend a certain amount of exercise so that recovery happens at the right pace. Non-adherence to the program will mean a longer recovery time, and could also mean that you will need to see a physical therapist for a longer time than prescribed, possibly resulting in loss of coverage from your insurance company.
